Ingredients

500 grams minced beef

250 grams bacon

1 onion, chopped

2 can chopped tomatoes

2 tsp sugar

1 beef stock cube

2 tbsp tomato puree

2 tbsp worcestershire sauce

1/2 tsp mixed herbs

to taste salt & pepper

500 grams potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced

1 tbsp melted butter or olve oil
Cooking Instructions

Remove rind from bacon and fry without browning, remove from pan and cut into 1 inch pieces

Add onion to pan and fry until transparent

Add beef and fry until cooked, return bacon to pan

Add the tomatoes, sugar, salt and pepper, worcestershire sauce, herbs and stock cube, bring to boil, then simmer for 15-20 minutes. (The sugar helps remove the acidity from the tomatoes and is optional.)

Heat oven to 180C. Place half of the meat mixture into an ovenproof casserole.

Arrange half of the potatoes over the top

Carefully add remaining meat mixture

Arrange remaining potatoes on top,season with salt and pepper, sprinkle with melted butter or olive oil

Place in oven, no lid, for 1 hour until potatoes are cooked and golden brown

Serve with peas or green beans
